IAMPS

Scope

Interest in automatic image analysis has increased significantly within plant science in recent years and there is clear evidence of an emerging bioimage analysis community working within the wider plant sciences to develop the required techniques. This community is, however, distributed across widely separated and disparate plant science and computer science research groups.

The International Workshop on Image Analysis Methods for the Plant Sciences seeks to bring together scientists actively engaged in the development of image analysis techniques and tools addressing problems arising within the plant sciences. The workshop aims to review the image analysis methods and approaches currently being used and developed, identify generic image analysis challenges arising across the plant sciences and techniques and approaches likely to lead to their solution, and promote collaboration within the developing plant image analysis community.

After four successfull editions in Nottingham, Aberystwyst and Louvain la Neuve, IAMPS 2016 takes place in Angers, France, located in the Loire valley and hosting unique phenotyping facilities with specific interest on seeds and pathogens.
IAMPS 2016 will be located at UFR Sciences of Université d'Angers, 2 boulevard Lavoisier, 49000 Angers.

Keynote speakers

Laure TOUGNE (Lyon, France)

Provisional title of the talk:  Didactic tree species recognition on Smartphone

Short bio: Laure TOUGNE is Professor of Computer Vision at the university of Lyon (university of Lyon 2, LIRIS laboratory) since 2005. After her PhD in Computer Science in 1997 at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, she obtained a professor assistant position at the university of Lyon 2 in 1998. Her researches deal with automatic image and video analysis with applications especially in environment. She was head of the ANR ReVeS project (2010-2014). She is head of the Lyon 2 part of LIRIS laboratory.

Massimo MINERVINI (Lucca, Italia)

Provisional title of the talk: Challenges and opportunities of affordable image-based plant phenotyping

Short bio: Massimo Minervini received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Bari, Italy, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. In 2015 he received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IMT School for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy, investigating image analysis and compression approaches and a sensing platform for plant phenotyping. He is currently a post-doctoral researcher with the Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis unit at IMT Lucca. His research activity is focused on the design and implementation of an affordable image-based plant phenotyping solution, named Phenotiki, and the development of an application-aware compression algorithm on resource-constrained devices. His research interests include data compression, computer vision, machine learning, and applications to life science.
